If it is just debris you can buy an over-the-counter eye wash or eye drop at any pet store. The best thing to do is to go to the vetrinarian.

Make sure there is nothing in it. Call vet to see what steps to take. Clean with warm wash cloth. Make sure to keep an eye on the swelling, if it gets worse over the night take pet to emergency vet office as soon as possible. If no emergency vet in your area contact your vets office immediately.

There are allot of reasons why the eye would be swollen (trauma, irritation, inflammation, etc.), in order to be able to treat this problem the dog's eye needs to be evaluated by a vet. This would be done to determine the correct course of action in treating the swollen eye.

The firth thing you would do is figure out why the eye is swollen. If you believe its from allergic conditions or debris you can treat with dog eye drops. Other eye conditions can be serious and could require vet care.

A problem with the eye isn't something to ignore or try to self treat. I would take your dog to your veterinarian as soon as possible.

a swollen eye can be a sign of a gland blockage or infection. Your dog most likely needs an antibiotic eye ointment, and anti-inflammatory. This should be treated immediatly to avoid blindness.

I use a boric acid wash to clean the eye. Add a tablespoon of boric acid to a quart of boiling water, let this cool and then place a cotton ball that has soaked in the solution over the eye for a minute. You can do this a couple time a day. See a vet if there is no improvement.

I think you should take your dog to the vet just to make sure that you know for sure what is wrong.

If your dogs eye is swollen you should take her to a veterinarian as it could be caused by an infection. Other possible causes of a swollen eye for a dog include distichiasis (extra eyelashes within the eye),entropian (rolled in eyelids), cherry eye (a swollen gland). All require medical attention.

Take her to your VET immediately. It could be something simple, but could be a more serious infection. Meanwhile, keep a clean, warm, damp cloth on it as much as possible. If gunk starts to come out, it's probably conjunctivitis, but you can't be sure without a vet.
