One of the first things to do is to have the system checked to see if there is enough refrigerant. Check and see if the unit is blowing cool air. Otherwise there may be a problem with the electronic controls and it isn't shutting down properly. You need a special set of gauges to check the refrigerant

Checl the thermostat on the wall. The the ambient temperature is above the setting on the thermostat, then the AC will continue to run until the temperature drops below the thermostat setting. Otherwise, your thermostat might be broken. Try raising the thermostat setting to a setting higher than the ambient tempertature, the AC should shut off.

Check that the thermostat is set to a reasonable temperature. Look at the outside unit's coils, and make sure they are not covered by grass clippings, dirt, etc. Check the inside unit to make sure it hasn't frozen up. If it has ice on the coils, turn off the unit and allow it to thaw completely before restarting.

Check the settings on your thermostat. Your fan should be in the automatic mode and the temperature set at a reasonable level. If, for example, the thermostat is set to cool your space to 65 degrees and the outdoor temperature is 90 it will run constantly. If these suggestions fail to fix the problem call in an A/C professional.

If the AC is running all of the time you might have it set so low that it can never bring the indoor temperature to that level. Another reason might be that the thermostat is broken which makes the AC think that it still needs to run to continue cooling.
