I am in the Army and just make sure you are willing to dedicate the next few years of your life to it. It is not a bad life just make sure you're willing to be away from family and deploy overseas for 12 months. You will also work over 60 hours a week.

Do you have a MOS picked out? Do you know what that MOS entails? Do you have a spouse/family? Any foreign ties that might tie you up in a security clearance? Another thing to consider is that in the military today, you WILL deploy, not might. Make sure this is something you want to do, and don't rush the decision.

Consider the United State's position in the world. During a time of war, you will most likely be deployed to a combat area. Your duty will depend on your level of education and experience, so consider how those things will factor into your decision to serve.

The biggest consideration you should think about is whether it's okay with you to not be living near your family while you're in the Army. You'll probably only get the opportunity to visit them once or twice a year (if that) and odds are you won't be stationed near them.

Joining the army is a great experience, but consider how long you want to serve and if you should at all because eventually it won't help you outside of it.

The Army is a long term commitment which requires you to subsume yourself to the Government of the United States. As a solider you serve a higher purpose than an ordinary job and you can't just walk out when things get tough (yes, they can shoot deserters).

You should consider taking an anssurence and think about the risks you are about to confront. If you are going to a war there is no way back and especialy if you have a family you put them to face a big problem. But you also can get some nice money by joining the force
