What reasons would someone give for relinquishing parental rights?

Perhaps they don't make enough money, or they simply don't wish to have their children in their lives. Or they simply aren't mentally stable to raise children.

Parental rights may be given up because of hardship in raising a child. May he or she wants a better life for the child. The parent may not want the responsibility of a child or it could be that the parent doesn't like kids.

Parents relinquish their rights for the sake of their children: so they can be adopted to a better home, given adequate care, escape war or poverty, or otherwise benefit.

They don't want the responsibility for the child/children. They feel that someone else can give them a better life than they could.

They may want to give up their children due to a variety of reasons. Some feel as if they are just not good enough parents, some just plain don't want their kids and other just financially cannot afford to take care of them and want their kids to have a better life.

If they feel they are no longer fit to be a good parent. Substance abuse problems, instability, major physical handicaps, things of that nature.

One reason would be physical or mental health problems. They probably think that the child would have a better life with someone able to care for them and able to do things with them. Another reason could be financial. Another family member or friend may take better care of the child financially. One reason could be drug or alcohol addiction.

Children being old enough to make choices of their own. It is difficult to get to them once they disown you or they decide they do not need you as part of their establishment.

The most common reason for relinquishing your parental rights are due to the inability to properly take care of the child or children at hand. Other reasons would dealing with such things as drugs.
