Astrocytomas are very invasive glioma. If your mother has grade 3 to 4 tumors, even after surgery the glial cells will not be completely removed and it has tendency to grow rapidly. She should undergo either radiation therapy or chemotherapy within 2 to 4 weeks after her surgery. She could also have psychological changes due to this disease.

Astrocytomas come from glial cells called astrocytes. These cells are diffuse and are spread out; this is not good because it means that the cancer, though contained in the brain, will likely regrow even after surgical resection or chemotherapy. Your mom may also have behavioral and mental changes due to the cancer. Unfortunately, it is lethal and uncurable.
