Jack Chesbro, pitcher for the New York Highlanders (the forerunners of the contemporary New York Yankees) holds the current record for most wins in a baseball season. His record was 41-12. Greg Maddox's best season (if we are evaluating him solely in terms of number of wins) was the 1992 season (his record was 20-11).
