Licking of paws means 1 of 2 things. 1. Something is stuck in their paw. Burrs are a common nuisance and left untreated will eventually infect and swell the paw. This means vet. 2. Allergy, less likely but also means vet. Either way time to drag fido to the vets.

Try to put a bactroban ointment into your dog's paw to stop him from licking. The dog might suffer a painful reaction into his paws maybe due to a short cutting of his nails. It is an anti bacterial ointment which help the paws protect from any infection that might occur due to licking that might invite infectious bacteria.

You have to be very careful not to let your dog lick Bactroban ointment because it is very bad for the kidneys if ingested.  add a comment

First, take your dog to your veterinarian to discover the cause of the paw licking. Hypothyroidism and skin allergies can cause paw licking and need to be treated. For non-health-related paw licking bitter tasting ointments/sprays such as Bitter Apple can be tried. This non-toxic product is applied directly to the paws to discourage licking.

I agree Dermapaw is the best. It worked for my boxer in four or five days after trying everything else for almost three years. Awesome stuff!

Consult your vet, as constant paw licking can be a sign of foot fungus and other issues. Soaking each paw in distilled white vinegar will help kill bacteria, and help prevent continual licking.
