You would first have to have graduated a medical or nursing school, and another big advantage for you would be to have undergone some training courses for newborns assistance. Also, another big plus would be if you also have some experience working in that field, like having worked in a maternity ward before.

Either PICU (pediatric intensive care unit) nurses, or NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) nurses work with newborns. Neonatal intensive care unit nurses must be very careful. They work in a very clean unit, and both sets of nurses have very high security in many places. Both jobs must be very emotionally stressful.

A neonatal nurse is the kind of nurse that assists newborns. There are 3 levels of specialization, each dealing with a different kind of newborn (healthy, ill etc).

Generally Registered nurses are charged with assisting in the delivery and care of newborns. They are supposed to make sure that while the child is in the hospital they receive all necessary care including shots , circumsions and even blood drawing. The nurse will also advise the mother if any issues arise with the child.
