While it may sound odd, try a concealer or foundation primer with a purple tint (they also make this in green to even out a red skin tone). Many drug-store brand cosmetic companies are now picking up the trend, so you should be able to pick this up in any store. Then, just apply your foundation over it like normal.

Color theory applies in makeup application. The rule of thumb here is to, with the help of a color wheel, use the color opposite the one you'd like to mask. Purple can eliminate yellow undertones or mask yellowish spots. To mask a yellowish complexion, seek out concealer and foundation shades that are warm rather than cool.

To have natural looking skin with yellow tones while using foundation, the best makeup would be a foundation with yellow tones. Picking a foundation with pink tones would only make you look unnatural. Also, you could use a purple (brightening) base or a green base to even complexion.

Technically, purple is supposed to balance out yellow undertones, because it is opposite from it on the color wheel. Many companies make purple-tinted concealers that will help with this.
