I recommend that he eats lots of fresh food. Veggies, vegtables, and fresh grains. Also fresh fish seems to help sometimes. Tell him to stay away from processed sugars as much as he can.

Try to include a lot of fruits and vegetables, especially those rich in vitamin C. Also include fish, chia seeds, or flax seeds for their essential fatty acids.

Eat well balanced meals on regular schedule, every day. Some say tomatoes and potatoes can be harmful, but it's mostly myth. Cherries, however, help with inflammation. The darker the better, drink 6-8oz daily. Maintaining healthy weight is key to keeping joints healthy and to minimize the risks of other auto-immune related illnesses. Eat small amounts often, about 6 meals daily.

What you want are foods with anti-inflammatory properties that will help prevent swelling. Salmon and organic meats are most highly recommended. Cherries and blueberries, which contain high levels of antioxidants are also recommended. Turmeric, ginger and garlic are great seasonings that have been found to help prevent inflammation. Watch your intact of foods high in trans fats and saturated fats.
