Take a full cover of insurance for car whenever you are travelling, not only to Guatemala; It is better advisable to have cover including the lives of traveller and those are on the roads. Insurance is for unforeseen incidents which may help to cover the loss.

Most US auto policies only provide coverage in the US, Canada, and sometimes 50 miles into Mexico. If you plan to travel past these parameters, get coverage from a broker.
