Picasso suffered from what some call a chemical imbalance. It made him depressed and also aided in some of his more 'eccentric' personality traits. However all of these chemical imbalances have added to his work!

Picasso suffered from no mental disease or special physical ailment. He was simply creative, and sought to break traditions of painting down by breaking down the conventions of painting. While some may view his work as childish, Picasso had a firm background in classical artistic traditions.

He had, what appears to be self esteem issues. Hence why he had many mistresses during his lifetime and had children by three different women. But his cubism period is not due to any sort of problem, but by mere viewing the world in terms of shapes instead of the way other people viewed things. Ahead of his time.
