Giant flies in the northeastern region of the United States are often Tabanid flies and are annoying, but are harmless.

It could be a blue bottle fly you have something that has died and it is laying maggot eggs to eat the carcass.

This is most likely a horsefly or deerfly. These pests are bloodsuckers and usually feed off of animals, but will also bite humans.

If it's somewhere near June it could possibly be a June fly, or it could be a horse fly
