What is the velocity of a flowerpot if it falls from a windowsill 25.0m above a sidewalk?

Answer by  e36 (170)

This entirely depends on the air resistance affecting the flowerpot which is very hard to calculate without the flowerpot, but roughly 22.1 m/s excluding air resistance.

v*v = u*u + 2as, v = final velocity, u = initial velocity, a = acceleration and s = distance In this case: u = 0 m/s a = 9.8 m/(s*s) (gravity, directed downwards) s = 25 m Therefore, v = sqrt(0 + 2 * 9.8 * 25) = 22.1 m/s, directed downwards.
