Spraying the appropriate insecticide works great on bagworms, but the bags they live in until hatched is hard to penetrate with liquids. Talstar One is recommended for this task. It is concentrated and has no odor, and can be used on many kinds of trees and plants, including the lawn.

I have been battling them for years and I have found that if you cut the very first ones you see down the other ones really don't bother you.

the best control stradegy would be to use a systemic insecticide like merit about every 4 months you can apply it to both plants and grass it is available as a concentrate liquid or a granular this should prevent most then use an orthene to spot treat as needed to keep infestation down

Mid-June is the time to use insecticides while the critters can be easily killed. Pulling off and burning the bags from fall until spring can cut down the population.

The best strategy is to spray raid all over your garden and also to use ammonium daily to prevent bagworms.

I contacted the arbor day foundation when they attacked my trees last fall and they told me the only true way to get rid of them is you have to cut the nests down and burn them so we did.
