The 1804 American silver dollar is a rare coin considered to be one of the most famous in the world. The coin itself is divided into three separate classes with only fifteen coins known in all. To purchase one today it would cost around 700,000 with the world record selling at 4.14 million.

$4.14 million dollar is the highest amount which has ever been paid (for any coin) in an auction. In 2009 a 1804 silver dollar was actioned off for $2.3 million. The recession deflated the value, I recon it's worth a lot more now.

A real 1804 Liberty Silver Dollar probably is worth millions. There are fakes that are worth about 20 dollars. The 1804 silver dollar was actually printed in 1834 in 2 sets as gifts to foreign kings. The man running the machine minted a few extra and maybe as many as half of these are accounted for.

They are rare and expensive, it is supposed that there are only 15 of them left. On of them few years ago was sold on auction for 4 million $.
