Your dog might possible become emaciated with an annoying rash like people get. You can treat scabies with lime-sulfer dip and a medicated shampoo to kill the scabiemites. Presciptions are availible in pills or shots. Make sure to clean your dogs bedding and your house to kill the remaining mites.

A common treatment is trimming the dogs hair and doing dips in benzoyl peroxide (which are unpleasant.) Newer treatments like Revolution (topical solution) are only applied once a month, and there are also some oral treatments available that are less unpleasant for everyone. Besides treating the dog, areas such as the dog's bedding should be treated with an insecticide.
