The best treatment for a dog that has Salmonella Poisoning is to immediatly get your dog to a vet so that they can be administered the proper antibiotics such as Ampicillin or Trimethroprim-sulfonamide. Prevention is key. Make sure all foods given are fully cooked, keep your dog away from other feces of birdfeeders, secure garbage, and clean frequently.

Treatment for salmonellosis in healthy pets might not require more than supportive measurements such as hydratation or nutritional supplements, as the disease has a self limited course. In pets with chronic underlying diseases or decreased immune system, with a complicated clinical course, the indicated treatment would be antibiotics.

Most dogs recover from salmonella without any treatment. They will drink extra water and maybe vomit, but otherwise be ok. Withhold food for 24 hours and see vet if needed.

You should probably take your dog to the vet if you think there is something wrong with him. They are the only ones who will know for sure. I would be sure to have plenty of water around for him in the meantime. I hope your dog gets well soon.
