Some women are treated using drugs, and some will not need treatment for ITP during pregnancy, only careful monitoring of platelet counts. Many common treatments of ITP are harmful to developing fetuses, so if you have ITP and are considering pregnancy, talk to your doctor before trying to become pregnant.

The treatment of ITP in pregnancy is highly dependent on the platelet count. Often it is managed with little to no treatment. If needed, the doctor will consider the possible site effects of all treatment options on the unborn baby. These options normally include intravenous immune globulin (IVIG) treatments used in conjunction with corticosteroids (such as prednisone).

You can be treated using steroids to increase your platelet count. You will also be monitored to make sure they are not getting too low.

ITP is a condition where the sufferer has low blood platelet counts. The best way to treat this is with steroids.

Your doctor will monitor your platelet count closely. If it gets too low, you may get put on steroids or similar medication to get your levels up.

Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) will be treated using steriods to increase your platelet count. You will also be monitored regularly for platelet counts to make sure they are not getting too low. If you start to dip too low, your doctor may want to have you deliver early (a count of 50,000 or higher is required for a c-section).
