The smallest breed of dog would be an Affenpinscher. An Affenpinscher weighs up to 9 pounds in all, sometimes as low as 6. Teacup Chihuahuas are actually not a real breed of dog...it is a mutt!

The Chihuahua is the smallest AKC recognized breed of dog. A Teacup Chihuahua is not a breed in and of itself, but rather, a frail and generally unhealthy specimen which should never be bred as they often have health problems which would be unkind to propagate.
