There are scorpion flies and ants that look like scorpions. There are also whip scorpions that arent even scorpions at all.

Is it in your basement? Sounds like a house centipede. Not harful to you (just creepy), but are great preditors and can help control smaller insect populations.

This insect is called a Black Earwig. The scientific name is Giant Stonefly. Be careful of this bug; it can be dangerous to small animals like your cats or small dogs. It possesses minimal poison to paralyze is prey but enough to be lethal to small animals.
