What is the significance of a four-leaf clover?

It's supposed to be lucky, but why?

Answer by  Feasel (1766)

Its an Irish tradition for the most part. But mainly its because its much rarer than the normal 3 leaf clovers.

Answer by  Erynn (1651)

Because the four-leaf clover is extreemly rare, so the person who finds one is lucky. It is also said that each leaf means something; the first is hope, the second is faith, the third is love, and the fourth is luck.
