What is the right oil to use in a transfer case for a Chevy Avalanche?

I am very confused by all the different types of oil and will need to change mine soon.

The transfer case uses a synthetic blend of oils. to maintain the warranty it would be best to use the recommended oil which can only be purchased at the dealership. If you dont you run the risck of damaging a sensitive sensor causing an error light.

Check your owners manual to see what is recommended by Chevrolet. Usually transfer cases are filled with a heavy straight weight gear oil.

As much as possible use the Chevy recommended oil for your transfer case. One good choice is the GM Autotrak II transfer case fluid if your transfer case is an automatic. But if it is a manual the DEXRON-III Automatic Transmission Fluid is also a good choice. However, any oil rated as 5w-30 will do.
