The Democratic Party holds many conventions at local, state wide, and national levels. The party convention serves multiple purposes. It generally selects party officials (e. g. Chairman, Secretary), the party platform, and most importantly candidates for political office (e. g. President of the United States).

At both party conventions there is a lot of ceremony and more or less team celebration. It is generally held at the end of the presidential primaries when a victor nominee has come forward at which time he gives an party nomination acceptance speech.
