Operant conditioning theory is the theory that behavior of a subject can be changed through reinforcement. When a certain behavior is shown the subject receives reinforcement or punishment. Operant conditioning is a theory of psychology that maintains behavior is modified by the use of consequences. Behavior is reinforced, punished or extinguished by various consequences predicated by the operant behavior of the individual. This can occur through positive or negative reinforcement, or positive or negative punishment. The most recognized proponent of this theory is B.F. Skinner.
