The official title of the Statue of Liberty is "Liberty Enlightening the World" or "la Liberté éclairant le monde" in the French language. The Statue was a gift from France and was designed by a French architecht, Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, to mark the Centennial of the American Declaration of Independence.
