Yes. Unfortunatley, baby cottontail rabits have very high mortality rates. These animals need their mothers around as they are the ones who know what is best for the baby. Without its mother present, the animal will require a lot of attention and care to survive. However, even if you do everything possible, the baby rabbit may not survive.

Yours has a better chance of surviving since it's already a few weeks old. Yes, they have a high mortality rate because they are not meant to be pets, they're wild animals. Most of the time it's because people see them abandoned and try to rescue them but have NO CLUE what they're doing and so the baby rabbit dies.
