Cricket has been known to exist since the 1500s and 1600s. However, organized competitions between counties in England began in the 1700s. In 1788, the Marylebone Cricket Club formulated many of the rules that we know today, such as the ways batsman can be out. In 1877, the English and Australian national teams competed in the first so-called "Test Matches."
