Lots of people call a table a chart, but I think, technically, they are two different things. Tables have rows and columns of text while charts represent data pictorially, like a bar chart or pie chart. Graphs show data with lines based on an x and y axis.

Usually, charts have images and colors while texts are text-based.

Think of it this way: a table has text (t for text). A chart is a graphical representation of that text (i. e. , data). Some examples of different types of charts: flow chart, pedigree chart (i. e. , family tree), and a bubble chart which is increasingly popular.

Table contains only text and number of columns and rows. Columns are equal size. In table we decide how many rows and columns wanted. We can write text in the table first column, after filling the first column it automatically go next column of the first row. Chart contain text and graphs and its dimensions also.

This is closest to the answer I remember from a math book. The added details about column size and such seem to be spreadsheet era additions. I think the old answer used to be that a chart included words. That definition doesn't preclude more involved graphical representations.  add a comment

A table often has data presented in a grid fashion. A chart is a graphical representation of data and often has bars, line or other pictures that describe the data contained therein.
