A netbook is smaller than a laptop, does not generally have an internal optical drive, and does not have the advanced graphics or processing power that a laptop may have. Netbooks also tend to be more web-centric than laptops.

Netbooks are just small laptops. Usual laptops have a normal (small) hard drive and a 15-17 inches screen which makes them difficult to move around. Netbooks have 10-12 inches screen and usually special SSD drives, are light-weighted, and less expensive than usual laptops.

The main difference is that a netbook typically have very limited options and resources. It is designed primarily to navigate the web and may or may not run other programs. A laptop has a lot more features like a desktop.

A netbook is an easy to pickup and carry version of a laptop pretty much. It's usually very low on specs and runs very poorly, but carries exceptional battery life. A laptop is much bulkier and can have greater internals.

Both are portable computers but designs and purpose differs. Netbook - easy to carry, very lightweight, more on internet activity, most does not have optical drives, poor graphics. Notebook - powerful than a netbook, more flexible or expandable, heavier compare to a net book, compatible with more softwares, better graphics.

The most important difference is that a netbook has no optical drives. Things like a DVD or CD drive for example. The other difference is that almost all netbooks can only support two gigs of ram max. Most netbooks also come with the very weak Intel Atom processor. Netbooks screens are almost always 10. 1 inches.
