To organize files, the easiest way is with hanging folders in a cabinet, and then put manila folders within those hanging folders. The hanging folders let you organize by topic, and then the manila folders inside let you get more specific.

Start you filing by year, seperate all papers by the years and then work on the rest. In doing this you will have better luck filing older, unused documents away later.

File Drawers are always the easiest bet. Section and label each drawer either alphabetically or numerically. Make sure that the files are tabbed or notated as to allow easy reference when searching for a particular record.
