Question by  meisterkrapfen (24)

If I filed chapter seven in December of 2001 when is the earliest that I could file again?

I have found my self in financial difficulty again and need to file for bankruptcy, but with the changes in the law I am not sure if I can.

Under the bankruptcy law that was passed by congress in 2005, the time limit between Chapter 7 filings is 8 years, so December of 2009 is the earliest you can file again. If you filed for Chapter 13 after your Chapter 7 bankruptcy was discharged, the limit is 4 years.

There are different types of bankruptcy. The laws change in 2005. The best thing to do is sit down for a free consultation with an attorney who specializes bankruptcy.

I think it's time you learn how to manage your money. You can only file bankruptcy once every NINE years. You have to take credit courses in order to do so. I suggest you read these carefully so you don't end up in this situation again.
