It is it best to determine first what kind of soil you have. Different soils need different fertilizers. Natural fertilizers are always good, and enviornmentally friendly. Nitrogenous fertilizer is great for watermelon.

Watermelon ar touchy When we fertilize ours we start in the fall of the year before and spread horse manure on the field and till it under then we cover it with more manure and leave it for the winter so it can freeze out the bad stuff then in the spring we till and plant.

water melons are heavy feeders. it needs nitrogenous fertilizer untill flower forms. it also needs high phosphorous and potassiuum,liuid fertilizers and folliar feeding. it also need generous amount of compost.

A home grown fertilizer can work best. Include citrus peelings, lemon and seeds. Make a compost to see your watermelons grow to optimal speed. Make sure you include as much peelings as possible, as this will provide the nutrition that your watermelons will need. Use vinegar also. That will help.

i use 20-20-20-fertilizer and with watermelon you have to keep them water real good,make sure the fertilizer is not put to close to the plant it will kill them
