The "V" chip is considered by many to be the best parental control. If you have a satellite dish, satellite companies often make blocking certain programs easy. Some more advanced cable packages can do this as well. Basic cable does not typically offer this option. You may be able to program your television set to block channels, also.

Any TV manufactured after 1997 should have built in parental controls- remember the V-chip debate? Look in the user manual for your television for details on how to program the system. A quick google search can help you find the manual for your television if you've (like most of us) lost the original.

Check your TV owners manual, many televisions made in recent years have parental controls built in to them. If you have cable or satellite television, call your television provider's customer service line and ask them how to block certain channels or password protect certain channels that you do not want children viewing.

most tv's and cable boxes come with parental controls already installed. they work off of the ratings for the shows that appear in the top corner when the show starts.
