Blown in insulation creates a seamless blanket of insulation in your attic. It is easily installed without the need to physically lay down individual fiber glass batts. A common material for this type of insulation is cellulose. This has the advantage of being fire retardant. 18 inches of loose fill insulation on the attic floor should give an R-60 value.

Standard home insulation would work just fine for a hip roof. Aside from being square its not different from normal roofs. So fiber glass insulation would be fine. If you want to go with a greener solution you could use batts of cottons.

Best insulation is cork based on W/Km2, but if you looking price/quality ratio, the best ratio have polystyrene and glass wool.
