Dogs actually need a balanced diet of meats and vegetables, but the majority of owners feed them dry dog food and never introduce 'real' meat and veggies. Look into the 'BARF' dog diet, it is as natural as it can get, although more pricey.

Dogs are carnivores but can also gain some nutrition from other food sources allowing them to survive when hunting for meat is impossible. A vegetarian diet is not natural for them and may not contain the right nutrients to opitmize growth and health. The best dog diets are meat based ones which are the most natural diets for dogs.

Dogs are carnivores. They require a meat-based diet that contains a high level of moisture for efficient digestion. If a commercial diet is fed, canned dog food that contains a high percentage of meat is best. Your friend may also opt to feed a homemade, meat-based diet, but care must be taken to provide an appropriate nutritional balance.

Dogs were originally meat eaters like the wolf so they need meat for it's protein. My vet told me to feed my dog a dry dog food because too much canned food can ruin their teeth. A lot of cheaper dog foods list corn or some kind of grain as the main ingrediant and that's what you don't want.

Dog's were really made to eat meat. So it's best if there is some meat included into their diets. The best thing you can do for your dog is to avoid feeding them "human food" or table scraps. It can extend their lives.
