What is the benefit of doing a side split?

The main benefits are flexibility and suppleness in the body. Other than that it is just a show off move. I would recommend focussing on other excercises and manuovres that would perhaps be more useful and beneficial such as pull ups and sit ups. But good luck trying the splits.

Being able to do a side split shows great flexibility and exercise ability. Side splits stretch your leg muscles, which is beneficial for dancers, gymnasts, and athletes. It will also prepare you for rigorous exercise, and give you toned legs.

A side split strengthens the leg muscles including calf and upper leg it also releases pressure compared to straddle split.
