If you need to split a sentence within a cell, to avoid the cell to expand to the full length of the sentence, just do a Alt-Enter where you want to split the sentence. This works in all Windows versions of Excel.
Firstly, double click on the particular cell with the words in on Excel with your left mouse key. Then, click once between the words you want to split. There should be a flashing line between the words after you have clicked. Press the spacebar and the words will split.
Mark the cells you want to separate. Go to the extras menu and click on text in columns. Now select the option, that spaces should be taken as separators.
Do this:
1) go to Data menu
2) click on Text to Columns
3) choose "fixed width" (click next)
4) manipulate the breaklines (lines with arrowheads) to the desired positions (click next)
5) click Finish
This will the text (assuming a line of text) into differenct cells.
You can split the cells by following these steps. First, Select Column A or the Column with the words. Then, select data and text to columns from the top menu. Next, select delimited and then click next. Finally make sure only space is selected under the delimiters heading. This should split the words.

-Under the Destination area, type $B$1 and then click Finish

Under the Delimiters heading, make Space is selected, click Next, In Destination area, type $B$1, then click Finish.
If you want to split the cells,Select col A and From menu, sel. Data & then Text to Col. &click Next & under the Delimiters heading click Next & Destination & type $B$1.

-From the top menu, select Data and then Text to Columns
-Select Delimited and click Next
-Under the Delimiters heading, make sure only Space is selected and click Next
-Under the Destination area, type your content and then click Finish
type some words in A column. then Select column A. From the top menu, select Data menu and then Text to Columns option. Select Delimited and click Next. then Under the Delimiters heading, make sure only Space is selected and click Next. Under the Destination area, type $B$1 and then click Finish
