What is the 1099-R Civil Service Form all about?

Answer by  Loyola (378)

The 1099-R is the "Statement of Annuity Paid" to a retired federal employee. It lists the taxable and non-taxable income received from a pension, annuity, retirement or profit sharing plan, IRA withdrawals, etc. This information is needed for federal and state income tax returns. The form is mailed by the end of the January following the taxable year.

This is the form used to report retirement income to the IRS. The income may or may not actually be taxable, depending upon your situation, but it is still reported.
