Digital data transmission can occur in serial transmission. In serial transmission mode, bits are sent sequentially on the same wire. It reduces wire's cost. The major disadvantage of it is that it slows the speed of transmission. It can be either synchronous or asynchronous transmission.

Serial transmission is the act of sending computer communications down a wire or cable one bit at a time, and in only one direction. Only one stream will be sent in a Serial transmission, whereas for Parallel multiple different streams can be transmitted at the same time.

There are two of these types of transmission, serial and parallel. As the name implies, a serial transmission is 1 bit at a time while parallel is multiple bits.

Serial transmission is a type of plug between a device and the computer. It is similar to USB, but not as easy to use. Old printers, old gaming pad devices, olf scanners, and other such devices used the serial port to connect. It is rare that you will use this anymore.

Serial transmission is generally used for machine to machine transfer. It is when single bits of data are sent along one line, arriving in the order that they where sent in. This is different from parallel transmission which usually occurs inside one computer because it has a wider bandwidth, however using multiple wires to send data requires clock synchronization.

Serial transmission is a transmission mode that sends data one bit at a time. In most cases, in personal computers, serial data is passed through as RS232 serial interface port.

A serial transmission sends signals one way, as opposed to a parallel transmission which can send data both ways simultaneously.
