It is an inflammation/ swelling of the prostate glands. It is a very general term though, so it can cover a lot of issues.

Prostatitis is an inflammation of the prostate gland a normally walnut sized gland that encircles the ureter in males. Inflammation of the prostate can cause problems with urination, and back pain.
