The four blocks literacy model is a balanced model based on the following four aspects (blocks): guided reading, self-selected reading, writing and working with words. The four blocks model is intended for Grades 1-3.

The four blocks literacy is a program to teach children to read. The four blocks are Guided Reading, Self-Selected Reading, Writing, and Working with Words. It was created by Patricia Cunningham and Dorothy Hall. It tries to integrate reading, writing, speaking and listening. It was originally developed for fist graders but has been modified for all levels.
