Doll hair is actually made of a plastic which is molded into synthetic fibers, and this is what gives it the smoothness. However, some dolls do indeed have hairs from real people, but this was only decades before. This has changed into doll's hairs being made of plastic these days.

They make doll hair from a number of different materials such as yarn, animal fiber, plastic fiber. It is realistic usually and normally dolls that are more expensive the hair is animal fiber so that it is more realistic.
