Yes, they still are. I don't know how easy they are to find, particularly in America, as I don't recall seeing any in my hometown. In Japan they are very popular, as Kewpie is a mascot for a brand of mayonnaise and dressing. You can find Kewpie in various forms, including wearing costumes of popular Japanese characters.
