DLCO is Carbon monoxide (CO) diffusing capacity, which measures lung function. The lung's ability to take up a non-reactive gas (like carbon monoxide) that is inhaled, which then binds to hemoglobin in the bloodstream. The test then monitors how quickly and how much of the CO is exhaled. This then is how the lung function is assessed.
