Examples of a misdemeanor includes, shoplifting, disturbing the peace, driving under the influence, petty theft, prostitution, trespass, drug possession, vandalism, simple assault, a DUI, incarceration and public intoxication. Those convicted are often punished with probation, community service or part-time imprisonment. Can result in loss of privileges including professional licenses, public offices or employment.
