Competency mapping maps a person's skill level against the skills required for a job. If they are deficient, they may need to take courses or apprenticeships to learn those skills. If there are several job candidates, those that have the highest score on the competency map will get the job.

Competency mapping analyzes and determines your strengths and weaknesses in a particular career and/or within a particular organization. Sometimes competency mapping will also look at a team.

Competency mapping is where you are given a lot of tests in multiple areas. The purpose of the test is to find what you are good at and at what level.
