What is causing my guinea pig to shed?

Some shedding in guinea pigs is natural (especially in longer-haired ones), and can be managed by brushing daily with a metal greyhound comb. If you notice bald spots or excessive scratching, then it might be an indicator of a fungal infection or parasites, and you should take your pig to a trained EXOTICS vet for a checkup.

Guinea pigs that are long haired tend to shed more than short haired ones. It is important to determine if the cause is normal or not. Some causes of shedding is a parasite or fungal infection.Some other causes are vitamin c deficiency, hormonal, bactieral infections, or low protien diets.

Lack of nutrition, or stress. Try giving it Vitamin C supplements, or if you already do that, try giving them alfalfa hay, fruit chews, or yogurt chips.

they r wild animals most wild animals do cuz they cant have their hair cut. all guinea pigs shed
