Electric torch is an equipment used to light a bulb. The equipment consists of a holder for batteries, bulb and switch which is electrically connected. The torch lights the bulb when the switch is turned on.

In the United States and Canada it is called a flashlight, but in other countries a torch or electric torch. It is an hand-held electric-powered device, used as a light source. Also can be attached to a helment or to a bicycle.

Torch is a British term for flashlight. In China (esp. former British colony Hong Kong), electric torch is the preferred term.
