Across the US, surgeons earn annually, $ 166,400 to $121,800. That breaks down to $58 to $80 and up an hour. These salaries reflect an experienced surgeon. The states of Utah, Oregon and Texas show the highest expected increase in hiring surgeons over all other states.

There are all kinds of surgeons: cardiac, neuro, opthalmic, ENT, orthopedic, plastic, and then subspecialties in each of those. A general surgeon's salary will fall between $250,000 and $340,000. The specialty areas earn more, depending on the location and the practice. Orthopedics, for example, start in the mid-$300,000 range while an ENT surgeon will likely start out around $300,000.
